Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT. Directs a team of 6 staff (2 full-time and 4 part-time) in providing day to day operational support for all master’s level and niche master’s level Schulich students at the Keele campus and at the Miles S. Nadal Management Centre downtown (referred to as "Nadal"). The incumbent is responsible for ensuring a full staffing complement is in place, assessing work performance and addressing performance gaps, where necessary. Develops and oversees activities to strengthen academic supports to students such as developing targeted sessions on specializations and graduate diplomas, conducting and continually improving incoming and current student advising, etc. Conducts one on one and group advising with professional graduate level students, including at-risk students. Provides advice on detailed academic requirements and options, as well as student rights and responsibilities. Where appropriate, refers students to other university support services, such as to the Schulich Career Centre or the York Counselling & Disabilities Centre. Represents Schulich at university level enrolment meetings and ensures all reporting requirements related to the enrolment reporting exercise (ERE), completed three times a year, are done accurately. Oversees the development and production of printed materials and special information for niche groups, which will supplement faculty and university-wide information related to enrolment, registration, academic regulations, policies and options, specific to these groups and to all master's level students, ensuring they are delivered on time and within the prescribed budget. Represents Student Services on a number of Program Committees, providing expertise related to university policies and regulations and ensures the implication of Committee level decisions are implemented accurately and in timely manner as they relate enrolment and registration. Develop and foster necessary communication links in the university to ensure all of the above. |

Education: University degree preferably in areas of Business Management or Communication.
|
|
Experience: 3 to 4 years supervisory experience in a student services or administrative area in a university or higher education institution. Four years experience in academic advising or equivalent. Experience with print and online publications required. Experience in public speaking required.
|
|
Skills: Strong leadership, supervisory and management skills. A demonstrated commitment to client service - specifically students, faculty, staff and external contacts. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise and collaborate on an ongoing basis with administrative and academic stakeholders as well as other staff members. Excellent public speaking skills required. Excellent computer skills, including advanced word processing, advanced spreadsheet and database skills, advanced PowerPoint skills. Excellent written communication skills. Demonstrated advising skills and experience advising university students.
