STUDENT JUDICIAL AFFAIRS
BCIT Student Services is seeking a regular (permanent), part-time (50%) Director, Student Judicial Affairs to adjudicate allegations of non-academic student misconduct, while ensuring Institute policies and procedures are applied consistently and equitably.
The Director seeks mutually agreeable resolutions when appropriate, ensures a thorough investigation is carried out and conducts formal hearings as necessary. In addition, this position communicates with the student(s) involved, collecting information and providing them the opportunity to state their positions.
The Director also makes policy and procedural recommendations and ensures stakeholders are knowledgeable in dealing with non-academic student conduct issues. While staying current with student judicial issues, trends and practices, he/she also develops and delivers training to BCIT managers and faculty.
Ideally, work is done to intervene and take corrective actions as early as possible. By building rapport with the Student Association as well as service departments and schools across BCIT, the Director maximizes opportunities for timely intervention.
Qualifications:
* Relevant post-secondary diploma, bachelor’s degree or trades certification to qualify as an instructor at a post-secondary level, including vocational and technology institutions, plus five to ten years of experience in a variety of positions encompassing instructional and/or relevant administrative responsibilities in a Canadian post-secondary environment; these responsibilities should include experience in adjudicating academic and non-academic matters, conflict resolution and/or mediation, and facilitation using the principles of natural justice; must possess strong advisory skills in order to provide policy advice to senior management; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
* Working knowledge of administrative justice in a post-secondary education environment, including types of sanctions typically levied for a variety of conduct violations
* Ability to resolve complex problems and manage high profile, sensitive, and contentious issues
* Excellent organizational, communication, facilitation and project management skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with the senior managers, faculty, students, and external partners to develop strategic relationships which will contribute positively to the goals and objectives of the Institute
